Press Release on e-flux

FLIGHT MODE marks the second year of a cross-School MPhil and PhD research platform initiated by the RCA's School of Arts and Humanities.  Following on from last year's the hugely successful Daybreak, the postgraduate researchers return to Peckham for another experimental set of off-site events, taking place across three sites. Interweaving curatorial collaboration, performance, live event and open-mic symposium alongside the launch of the research journal PROVAFLIGHT MODE plays with and around a multitude of research imperatives, provoked by the dystopic politics of our contemporary times and includes contributions from over 40 research students.

Events will start at the Asylum, a disused nineteenth-century chapel on Asylum Road. Here you will be invited to attend live performances, video screenings, ghostings, brain wave/ artificial intelligence happenings, before arriving for the private view at the nearby Assembly Point Gallery. The researchers will also host the launch of PROVA the School's research journal, the School's annual research journal, as well as an open mic event and social at the Peckham Liberal Club, including the much-anticipated Epistemological: say what? Pub Quiz!

FLIGHT MODE invites the public to share in the vast range of ideas, approaches and practices that represent current contemporary arts and humanities research.  At the RCA this has developed along six research trajectories: 'Absurdity', led by Dr Chantal Faust; 'Disorder', led by Jordan Baseman; 'Documents', led by Professor Olivier Richon; 'Entanglement', led by Professor Johnny Golding; 'Fiction', led by Professor Rebecca Fortnum and 'Politicised Practice', led by Dr Mel Jordan.

This event is part of the RCA Show 2018, a unique opportunity to experience the very best of emerging contemporary art and design practice from over 800 art and design postgraduate students.
